Juurihoidon onnistuminen riippuu vahvasti siitä, onko hoitotoimenpiteet tehty hyvin. Asianmukainen ja oikein sijoitettu kavumavaus, joka on riittävän kokoinen ja mahdollistaa suoralinjaisen pääsyn juurikanaviin, on juurihoitotoimenpiteiden onnistumisen edellytys.
Kun juurikanaviin on päästy, määritetään työskentelypituus elektronisella apeksimittarilla sekä tarvittaessa röntgenkuvilla. Määritys tehdään mieluiten koronaalisen laajennuksen jälkeen. Tämän jälkeen juurikanavat puhdistetaan ja muotoillaan. Useimmiten työssä voidaan käyttää koneellisia Ni-Ti-juurihoitoneuloja. Samalla käytetään huuhteluliuosta, yleensä laimeaa natriumhypokloriittia.
Kun kemomekaaninen preparointi on tehty perusteellisesti, seuraava olennainen vaihe on juurikanavien täyttäminen. Korkealaatuinen, tiivis juuritäyte, joka päättyy korkeintaan 2 mm:n etäisyydelle röntgenologisesta apeksista, on hoidon onnistumisen kannalta tärkeä, kun taas käytetyt materiaalit ja tekniikat vaikuttavat olevan vähemmän tärkeitä.
Hammas tulee mahdollisimman pian juurentäytön jälkeen restauroida pysyvästi murtumien ja uusintainfektion estämiseksi. Jos hoitotoimenpiteet tehdään asianmukaisesti, juurihoidon onnistumistodennäköisyys on suuri.

Optimize your treatment outcome
A successful outcome of the endodontic treatment is strongly associated with well performed treatment procedures. An adequate access cavity preparation, which is correctly positioned, of adequate size and with straight-line access to the canals, is a prerequisite for the subsequent endodontic treatment procedures to be properly performed. Under aseptic conditions, after gaining access to the root canals, the working length is determined by an electronic apex locator combined with radiographs, preferably after coronal flaring. The root canals are then cleaned and shaped, whereupon, in the vast majority of cases, rotary or reciprocating Ni-Ti instruments can be used. This is performed in conjunction with the use of an irrigation solution, usually sodium hypochlorite at a low concentration. Once the chemomechanical instrumentation has been thoroughly performed, the next essential step is a filling of the root canals. A root filling of good quality, that is ending within 2 mm of the radiographic apex and without any voids, is of significant importance for the outcome, while the materials and techniques appear to be less important. Finally, the tooth should be permanently restored as soon as possible after the root filling, to prevent fracture and reinfection. Provided that the treatment procedures have been adequately performed, high success rates can be expected.
