Lähtökohdat
Liikkuvat hammashoitoyksiköt voivat parantaa hammashoidon tehokkuutta, saavutettavuutta ja saatavuutta. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää hammashoidon ammattilaisten kokemuksia liikkuvan yksikön käytöstä kouluikäisten lasten hammashoidossa.
Menetelmät
Oulun kaupungin suun terveydenhuollon henkilökuntaa haastateltiin sähköpostitse neljällä strukturoidulla haastattelulla keväällä 2021 ja 2022 liikkuvan hammashoitoyksikön käyttökokemuksista. Kysymykset ja tutkimusaineiston laadullinen analyysi pohjautuivat olemassa olevaan kirjallisuuteen.
Tulokset
Tehokkaimmiksi toimenpiteiksi liikkuvan hammashoitoyksikön toiminnassa arvioitiin tarkastukset ja ennaltaehkäisevät toimenpiteet. Tehokkuus vaihteli koululaisten päivän ohjelman mukaan. Potilaiden kannalta kouluympäristössä tehtävän hammashoidon etuna on, että oppilaat menettävät vähemmän aikaa koulutyöstä ja että kuljetukset vähenevät. Heikkoutena olivat työntekijöiden epäergonomiset työasennot ja rajalliset toimenpidemahdollisuudet.
Johtopäätökset
Liikkuvan hammashoitoyksikön hoidon tehokkuus ja kustannustekijät liittyvät tiiviisti toisiinsa. Henkilökunnan ergonomia, hoidettujen potilaiden määrä ja toimenpiteiden laatu tulisi ottaa huomioon, kun suunnitellaan liikkuvan yksikön käyttöä. Potilaille hyötyä saavutetaan ajansäästönä.

Experiences of school-based dental services using mobile dental units
The accessibility, availability and affordability of dental care are a complex concept. The potential of a portable and mobile dental unit (portable dental unit, PDU and mobile dental unit, MDU) is obvious. It has been used in many countries for a long period of time but the financial and efficiency of it remains little researched. The aim of this study was to investigate the use of portable dental units in a school environment (primary dental care setting) through a qualitative interview among oral health professionals.
The most efficient procedures performed in a portable dental unit were health screenings and preventive measures. The quality of the screenings in the portable dental unit may, however, not reach the same level when compared with the ones performed in a well-functioning dental clinic. The efficiency was found to fluctuate from day to day at a school environment. Efficiency and financial success are tightly intertwined. The number of treated patients per day, staff salaries and the staffing model are important factors when designing the model for a school-based dental program. The work postures of dental personnel were not ergonomically optimal. For successful dental care in a school environment good cooperation with school staff is needed. A dental-friendly atmosphere at school and among school staff makes it easier and more effective to accomplish dental care with portable or mobile dental units. A positive thing in school based dental care was that students miss less time from school. The advantages of school based dental care are related to missing less time from schoolwork and a decrease in the transportation of the children.
