Lähtökohdat
Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää syventävän käytännön harjoittelun toteutumista opiskelijoiden ja ohjaajien näkökulmasta.
Menetelmät
Aineisto kerättiin sähköisten kyselyjen avulla vuosina 2013 ja 2014 hammaslääketieteen opinnot Itä-Suomen yliopistossa aloittaneilta sekä heidän harjoittelupaikoissaan harjoittelun ohjaajina toimineilta hammaslääkäreiltä.
Tulokset
Itä-Suomen yliopiston hammaslääketieteen opiskelijat sekä heidän ohjaajansa olivat pääosin tyytyväisiä harjoittelun toteutumiseen. Harjoittelun osaamistavoitteet sekä työelämävalmiudet koettiin hyvin saavutetuiksi. Ongelmakohtia toteutumisessa olivat erityisesti opiskelijan kliinisen työn seuraaminen ja tukeminen, ohjaukselle varattu aika sekä perehdyttäminen.
Johtopäätökset
Vuoden 2011 hammaslääketieteen koulutuksen uudistuksen tavoite taata riittävä harjoittelu osana hammaslääkärikoulutusta on pääosin toteutunut. Harjoittelujärjestelmässä on kuitenkin kehitettävää etenkin ohjauksen tasapuolisuuden toteutumisessa.

Realization of the advanced practical training from students’ and their trainers’ point of view
The duration of the dental education is 5.5 years, and the scope of the studies is 330 credits. After five years of studies, a practical training period of six months is performed at a health center. The structure of the dental education was renewed in August 2011. Before that, no practical training was included in the degree whereas a nine-month service period in public health care was required after graduation.
The aim of this study was to gain an overall picture of how the training works now when the current reform of the degree structure has been in place for eight years and the current advanced practical training has been carried out for five years. The focus of the survey was on those who started dental education at the University of Eastern Finland in 2013 and 2014 (n=25) and their instructors in health centers (n=35). Data for the study was collected by using electronic surveys and was analyzed by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 27 -program.
The results of this study showed that the training had been well accomplished. However, guidance and monitoring and supporting the clinical work of the student needs to be developed. Students and their instructors felt that the learning objectives had been adopted well and they were satisfied with students’ working life capabilities.
The response rates in this study were rather good (40% and 41%). The target group could have been larger, but the results can, nevertheless, be considered to be reliable. As a result of this study, awareness of the capabilities provided by dentistry studies and the realization of advanced practical training has increased. The most important topic of further research is the experiences of dentistry students at other universities with the realization of the practice period.
